The Operatives of the Adamawa state Police Command attached to Girei Divisional police headquarters on July 17 while on an intensive surveillance patrol apprehended a 22-year-old man, parading himself as a military man, threatening and extorting members of the public.
When interrogated, the suspect who gave his name as Paul Shaltha, a resident of Sabon gari ward Girei local government area, confessed to having paraded himself as a military man sometimes last month, threatened and extorted one Michael Stephen a Keke Napep operator for alleged traffic rule violation.
The commissioner of police CP SK Akande who talked tough on the impersonators; however, directed State Criminal investigation Department (SCID), CP’s Monitoring unit , Public Complain Bureau (PCB) to go after people of such questionable characters and checkmate the criminal activities been master minded by these hooligans .
The police boss has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police ( CID) to immediately take over the investigation and ensure the prosecution of the suspect to serve as a deterrent to others from doing likewise.
