A 40-year-old suspected kidnapper has said that peer influence and covetousness led him into the kidnapping business. The man stated this while being paraded at the Police Command’s headquarters in Ibadan on Tuesday, September 20.
The suspected kidnapper was paraded alongside 22 others for alleged offenses ranging from kidnapping, murder, robbery, and defilement.
When interrogated, the suspect said he ventured into kidnapping this year and that he had carried out five successful operations and has made a total sum of N31 million from the kidnapping operations.
‘We don’t engage in gathering any information on our victims. We just go out and kidnap anyone we found using expensive car and suspect to have money.
I was arrested by the police in a hotel after a kidnap operation. I really regret my action and I advise anyone doing evil to stop because there is no benefit in it.
Peer influence and covetousness led me into kidnapping,” he said.
Speaking to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Adewale Osifeso, said that items recovered from the suspect and his accomplice included: two pump action riffles and three live cartridges.
Other items were an ML-350 Mercedes Benz SUV, a Toyota Corolla car, the N2.5 million ransom collected from victims, and six additional vehicles.
