“One thing that Nigerians who are based abroad have not understood is that they cannot stay there and tell us how to govern our country. Someone is going to be sitting in the United States of America telling us what to do and what not to do as if we don’t know what we’re doing in this country.
“If you break the electoral law, you will be punished directly and we will do everything in our power to prosecute both you and the candidate you are funding for their campaign.
“We have received a signal that some individuals, mainly expatriate Nigerians, have taken it upon themselves to fund the campaign of Mr Peter Obi, who is the Labor Party’s presidential candidate in the forthcoming presidential election.
“What these individuals have failed to understand is that Nigeria is a democratic nation governed by democratic rules and regulations. It is against the electoral law for expats to sponsor a candidate in an election. Those involved should refrain from such action or deal with us. We will fight back with all means. Such a fund cannot enter Nigeria. Although we have taken steps to arrest those who engage in such an act.” –
