It was nearly 10 p.m. when Robert tucked his six-year-old daughter, Sophia, into bed.
“Time for sleep, princess,” he said softly, wrapping the blanket around her small frame.
Sophia looked up at him with sleepy eyes. “Daddy… do we have to go to the hospital again tomorrow?”
Robert’s heart sank. She asked this question often. And every time, the answer hurt to say.
“Yes, my love. We have to. It’s important to keep you strong.”
Sophia nodded, but her little voice grew quieter. “I wish Mommy could come too… do you think she misses us?”
Robert forced a smile, fighting the lump in his throat. “I’m sure she does, sweetheart.
