There’s nothing more rewarding than giving back to other people in need, especially during Christmastime which we all know is the season of giving. But whether you admit it or not, there’s also a certain kind of joy you feel each “time” you receive a present from another person. Each gift, no matter how big or small, makes a difference because you know it comes from the heart.
While it’s great to receive a gift from a person you know, it’s even better when you receive one from someone you least expect. Then, there’s also Secret Santa or a person who gives gifts without making themselves get identified. If you are one of those people who experienced receiving a gift from a Secret Santa, then you would most probably know the thrilling feeling that comes with it.
As for a mom of 8 from Idaho, she became the recipient of one of the best gifts from a local in their town
In December 2020, a Secret Santa extended help to well-deserving individuals through East Idaho News. He isn’t just some made-up persona, though, as this was an actual person who wished to remain anonymous and also hoped to help as many people as they possibly could. Yes, this person gave away $500,000. Now, that’s a lot of money, right? And one of those lucky recipients was Carissa Heaps.
Carissa had moved around a lot with her husband Randy and their children. But three years ago, they decided to move back to Jefferson County to take care of her aging parents, who both needed help. Her mom had been suffering from multiple sclerosis, while her dad had dementia.
But it became even more challenging for Carissa when she found out that her husband had signs of early-onset Alzheimer’s and brain tumors.
For the longest time, Carissa and her husband were able to provide for their family through their hard work – not to mention their generosity to others. They even managed to save up money to make sure they had something to rely on in case of emergency. But with all the financial troubles they were facing because of the situation they were in, their problem only started to become even worse as Randy had to stop working due to his condition.
Carissa was carrying all the burden, even driving her husband to Salt Lake City to make sure he got proper medical care. But with their car constantly breaking down, it only became even more exhausting for her. Then again, Carissa managed to go through it all and remained strong for her family
Nate Eaton of IdahoNews.com first surprised Carissa with $2,000 worth of gas cards and another $1,000 money in a check.
Carissa simply couldn’t believe it when she was finally handed her gift.
“I can see that. And we need it so much and we just appreciate so much. Things have kind of gone crazy for us this year,” Carissa admitted.
But just when she thought it was all her Secret Santa had for her, she got even more surprised when she finally saw the car wrapped in a huge red bow and broke down in tears.
“Oh my gosh,” she remarked.
When she finally got into the car, she said: “This is so amazing. Thank you so much.”
Giving a message to her Secret Santa, she said: “This has been a hard year for everybody and it has been a hard year for us, too. So, thank you. It makes it feel like we’re not forgotten and that we can do this.”
