Police officers attached to the Ipaja Division of the Lagos State Command on Sunday demonstrated high sense discipline and professionalism after they were attacked and assaulted by a couple for accosting them while driving on the highway without license.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Oluwaga area of Ipaja, Lagos, where the Police officers, who were on routine patrol were seriously attacked and injured without the officers attacking them back.

The couple, Mrs. Adebayo and her husband, Clinton Ayobami at about 2:30 pm on Sunday, were flagged down in a Mercedes Benz car for not having number plates. Immediately, the occupants of the vehicle, Adebayo and Clinton, became aggressive, fighting and questioning the Policemen on why they stopped them and not other cars.

In an attempt to get them to the Station for further questioning, owing to their unprovoked aggressiveness and suspicious behaviour, Mrs. Adebayo and her husband, Clinton, assaulted the Police Officers publicly.

This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed that they have been arrested while the the car was impounded at the station.

Having been found culpable after interrogation, they were subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for assault and driving a vehicle without driver’s license.

They pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A. K. Dosumu, granted them bail and ordered their remand in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.

The matter was adjourned till 29th August, 2022, for mention.
