Men of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Felix Itoje.
PUNCH Metro gathered that on September 18, 2022, around 11.30am, police detectives attached to Agbarho division, in the Ughelli North Local Government Area, while acting on a tip-off, arrested the 32-year-old suspect.
During investigation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the kidnap of a woman on September 13, 2022.
Acting on the suspect’s confession, one additional suspect and the armourer of the gang, Israel Adam, 22, were reportedly arrested and one locally-made double-barrelled gun was recovered.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said the suspects were in custody just as investigation was ongoing.
In a similar incident, on September 16, 2022, around 10.30pm, information reportedly got to the DPO, Agbarho Police Station, that some armed hoodlums stormed the residence of a man along Railway Station Road, Agbarho, kidnapped him and drove out of the premises towards the railway.
“Consequently, the DPO detailed and led policemen, who went after the hoodlums.
“But the hoodlums, on sighting the cops, fired sporadically at them while the operatives equally responded.
“Due to the superior firepower of the police, the hoodlums abandoned the victim and ran into the bush.
“The victim, who was tied and kept in the boot of the car, was rescued unhurt by the police, while effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing hoodlums,” Edafe added.
The PPRO affirmed that when the car was searched, 50 rounds of live cartridges were recovered.
