Two people were killed and another seriously injured in a knife attack in Ludwigshafen. The alleged perpetrator was shot and seriously injured by the emergency services while fleeing, a spokesman for the Rheinpfalz police headquarters told SPIEGEL on Tuesday.
In the Ludwigshafen district of Oggersheim, there was a police operation on Tuesday morning after a man attacked several people with a knife. Two of those attacked were killed and one person was seriously injured, the spokesman said. The suspected attacker fled and was shot. He is now in the hospital.
As SPIEGEL learned from security circles, the alleged perpetrator is said to be a 25-year-old Somali citizen. The man shouted “Allahu akbar” before stabbing two people. According to the information, he severed a hand from one of the victims during the attack. The man then fled in the direction of a drugstore, where he seriously injured another person. The perpetrator himself was operated on, it is said, but is apparently out of danger.
The police did not provide any information on a possible motive.
