A Washington state man who police say killed his girlfriend and mother of three was arrested, according to a report.
Tacoma police arrested a 21-year-old man, whose name has not been released, in connection to the death of 24-year-old Elisia Simpson, also known as “CeCe,” KIRO reports.
The suspect was taken into custody at around 8:20 p.m. May 18, according to police. He was booked into the Pierce County jail on a domestic violence murder charge, according to KIRO. He also faces a charge of aggravated assault of a child, though police say Simpson’s children were not hurt.
On May 17, Simpson was found dead in an apartment. Police responded around 10 a.m. as welfare check at the Pacific Manor Apartments in the 7600 block of Pacific Avenue in Tacoma, KIRO reports.
Police say three young children alerts neighbors from their balcony that their mother was dead.
“I was scared for the kids because who wants to hear a little 5-year-old say something like that,” a neighbor named Amanda told KIRO. “Honestly, I felt like my heart broke. I felt so bad.”
The children, ages 2, 3 and 5, were placed into protective custody, the outleet reports.
“She loved her kids so much. And she loved music. She loved her family and she was loved. She didn’t deserve what this person did to her. The kids didn’t deserve to be in the presence of what was done to her. And whoever did it needs to be held accountable,” Thalia Simpson, the victim’s mother, said.
Thalia Simpson set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for her daughter’s funeral and for new stuff for the kids who may not want their items at home as they could remind them of the tragic event, KIRO reports.
“I know that every officer that has responded to this scene is grateful that the children are unharmed — physically, anyway,” Tacoma police spokesperson Wendy Haddow said.
